First, I want to talk about my former job,

and why I quit.

I was an English teaching assistant.

顾名思义，也就是协助外教上课。
As its name implies, it was to assist foreign teachers.

我们总共有四位外教，分别来自不同的国家。
We had four foreign teachers, they were from different countries.

I was responsible for supporting two foreign teachers, they were from America and Russia.

我在这家学校任职将近一年半的时间。
I worked in the school for about a year and half.

During the time, the foreign teachers changed constantly.

Because native English speakers are so valued in China, it sometimes causes problems.

Foreigners in English training schools are Gods!

They make much more money than Chinese.

Actually I don’t have problems with them getting high salary.

What I hate is that they make great money,

可是却没有用心，认真地去工作。
but they don’t take the job seriously.

教育在我心中一直是一个神圣的事业
In my mind, education is a kind of very important duty.

不管学生态度如何，
No matter how students behave,

我认为我们都应该尽力而为。
I think teachers should always do their best.

当然了，也不不是所有的外教都抱着这种态度
Of course not every foreign teacher has this bad attitude.

也有非常认真负责任的外教。
There are serious, responsible foreign teachers.

We think too highly of foreign English teachers,

所以他们才会觉得，反正你们很重视我，我无所谓！
that’s why they don’t care!
Rúguǒ shì wǒ, nà wǒ yě hěn yuànyì názhe hěngāo de gōngzī, zuòzhe zuì qīngsōng de shì
如果是我，那我也很愿意拿着很高的工资，做着最轻松的事
If I were them, I will probably have the same attitude.

If I reported the situation to my managers, they would not try to discipline the foreign teachers,

很多外国朋友都跟我说
A lot of foreign friends told me that
It’s so easy to live in China!
Everything is cheap, and you can make a lot of money without any effort!

如果我们对他们要求太苛刻，
So if we requires too much from them,
Tāmen bù liú zài zhōngguó dehuà, nà wǒmen de yīngyǔ zhème bàn?
他们不留在中国的话，那我们的英语这么办？
then they will not stay in China, who will teach English?
Zhège wèntí hái zhēn bù hǎo jiějué
这个问题还真不好解决
This is a difficult problem to solve.
Érqiě zhàn zài xuéxiào de lìchǎng, xuéxiào yě xiǎng yào zhuànqián.
而且站在学校的立场，学校也想要赚钱。
Also, English training schools want to make money.
Zǒngzhī, wǒ shàngmiàn suǒ miáoshù de yě zhǐshì wǒ cízhí de yī xiǎo bùfèn yuányīn
总之，我上面所描述的也只是我辞职的一小部分原因
What I just said is just a part of the reason I quit.

at the time I took the job, I was hoping I would be in an English speaking environment.

希望能够对我的英语有所帮助.
and it would help to improve my English.
Dànshì wǒ de yīngyǔ hái méiyǒu jìnbù, fǎn’ér tuìbùle!
但是我的英语还没有进步，反而退步了！
Yet, my English didn’t improve, instead, it got worse!

Isn’t it weird?
Nà wǒ zìjǐ zǐxì fēnxīle yīxià,
那我自己仔细分析了一下，
I thought about why this happened,
Yuányīn yěyǒu liǎng diǎn
原因也有两点
There are also two reasons,
Dì yī jiùshì ~
第一就是～
The first one is
Zài xuéxiào, měitiān jiǎng yīngyǔ shì méiyǒu cuò
在学校，每天讲英语是没有错
In the school, I did speak English,

但是充其量就是小学水平
BUT it was at best, at primary school level.

但是我跟他们的对话也仅限于基本对话
but the conversation between us was very basics
Zhège shì wǒ zài jìn xuéxiào zhīqián jiù yǐjīng yǒu de nénglìle
这个是我在进学校之前就已经有的能力了
I already had this ability before I started working at the school.
Suǒyǐ ne, zài zhè yī nián bàn de shíjiān, wǒ shì bìng méiyǒu shuō zài yīngyǔ shàngmiàn yǒu hěn dà de yīgè tūpò.
所以呢，在这一年半的时间，我是并没有说在英语上面有很大的一个突破。
So during the time at the school, there was no major improvement in my English.
Zhè yīdiǎn ràng wǒ juédé, yīnggāi shuō huì juédé yǒudiǎn shīwàng ba.
这一点让我觉得，应该说觉得会有点失望吧。
It made me a little bit disappointed.
Yě méiyǒu dádào xīnlǐ yùqī de nà zhǒng xiàoguǒ
也没有达到心里预期的那种效果
It didn’t meet my hope.
Dì èr diǎn yěshì zuì guānjiàn de yīdiǎn
第二点也是最关键的一点
The second reason, the key reason
Nà jiùshì wǒ de jījíxìng wánquán méiyǒu yǐqián nàme gāole!
那就是我的积极性完全没有以前那么高了！
My motivation was not as strong as before
Zhǎodào zhè fèn gōngzuò zhīhòu, zì rènwéi zìjǐ de yīngyǔ hái bùcuò,
找到这份工作之后，自认为自己的英语还不错，
Because when I got this job, I thought my English was not bad,
Yěyǒu yī fèn wěndìng de gōngzuò, suǒyǐ hái shì tǐng mǎnzú yú xiànzhuàng de.
也有一份稳定的工作，所以还是挺满足于现状的。
and the job provided me a stable income, so I felt maybe a little bit too comfortable.
Yuánlái nà zhǒng zǎoqǐ bèi dāncí,
原来那种早起背单词，
For example, before I had the motivation to get up early and memorize vocabulary,

在路上疯狂地跟自己讲英语的那种的状态.
and I was really crazy practicing English, for example, walking on the street, talking to myself in English.

那种动力早就没有了！
All this motivation was gone!
