1 薄/báo

Thin

Bǎ zhè kuài ròu qiē báo yīdiǎnr.

把这块肉切薄一点儿。

Cut the meat a little thinner.

2 宝贵/bǎoguì

Valuable/Precious

Shíjiān bǐ shìshàng rènhé dōngxi doū bǎoguì.

时间比世上任何东西都宝贵。

Time is more precious than anything else in the world.

3 悲观/bēiguān

Pessimistic

Bùyào zhème bēiguān, yào kàndào shìqing jījí de yīmiàn.

不要这么悲观,要看到事情积极的一面。

Don’t be so pessimist, look at the bright side of things.

4 必然/bìrán

Certain

Zhège yuè fángdìchǎn jiàgé shàngzhǎng shì bìrán de.

这个月房地产价格上涨是必然的。

A rise in property prices this month is a sure thing.

5 必要/bìyào

Necessary

Méiyǒu bìyào zài tǎolùn le.

没有必要再讨论了。

It is not necessary to discuss it any more.

6 别/bié

Other

Tā juédìng bǎ tā de zhùyìlì zhuǎnyí dào bié de shìwù shàngqù.

他决定把他的注意力转移到别的事物上去。

He decided to divert his thoughts to other things.  

7 不安/bù’ān

Uneasy/Disturbed

Tīng le zhè xiāoxi wǒ xīnli hěn bù’ān.

听了这消息我心里很不安。

I was rather disturbed by the news.

8 不好意思/bùhăoyìsi

Embarrassed/Sorry

Bù hǎoyìsi, wǒ méi tīng qīng nǐ gāng shuō de huà.

不好意思,我没听清你刚说的话。

I’m sorry, I didn’t catch what you just said.

9 不免/bùmiǎn

Unavoidable/Cannot Help But…

Shuí pèngdào zhèzhǒng shì yě bùmiǎn yào fā láosāo.

谁碰到这种事也不免要发牢骚。

Anyone in such a situation cannot help but complain.

10 不耐烦/bùnàifán

Impatient

Nǐ wèishéme zǒngshì duì wǒ bù nàifán?

11 不要紧/bùyàojǐn

Unimportant/Not Serious

Wǒ wèn guò hǎojǐ gè dàifu, dàjiā dōu shuō zhège bìng bùyàojǐn.

我问过好几个大夫,大家都说这个病不要紧。

I’ve consulted several doctors, and they all say that this illness is nothing to worry about.

12 残疾/cánjí

Physical Disability/Handicapped

Wǒmen bù yīnggāi qíshì cánjí rén.

我们不应该歧视残疾人。

We shouldn’t be biased toward handicapped people.

13 惭愧/cánkuì

Ashamed

Tā wèi tā kěchǐ de xíngwéi gǎndào hěn cánkuì.

他为他可耻的行为感到很惭愧。

He is ashamed of his shameful conduct.

14 操心/cāoxīn

To Worry

Bié wèi tā cāoxīn le,tā xiànzài guò de tĭng bùcuò de.

别为他操心了,他现在过的挺不错的。

Don’t worry about him! He is doing all right now.

15 长途/chángtú

Long-distance

Chángtú qìchē zhàn zài nǎr?

16 沉默/chénmò

Reticent/Silent

Tā duì wǒ shǐ le gè yǎnsè, yào wǒ bǎochí chénmò.

他对我使了个眼色,要我保持沉默。

He winked at me to keep silent.

17 诚恳/chéngkěn

Pure-hearted/Sincere

Tā duì rén rèqíng chéngkěn, dàjiā dōu yuànyì qīnjìn tā.

他对人热情诚恳,大家都愿意亲近他。

Because he is warmhearted and sincere, everyone wants to be his friend.

18 充分/chōngfèn

Sufficient/Ample

Zuòhǎo chōngfèn zhǔnbèi, miǎnde línshí huāngluàn.

作好充分准备,免得临时慌乱。

Make ample preparations so as not to be in a rush at the last moment.

19 抽象/chōuxiàng

Abstract

Zhège gàiniàn tài chōuxiàng le.

这个概念太抽象了。

This concept is too abstract.

20 丑/chǒu

Ugly

Yǒuxiē rén zhǎng de chǒu, dàn nèixīn què hěn měi.

有些人长得丑,但内心却很美。

Some people look ugly, but they have a good heart.

21 臭/chòu

Stinky

Wǒ xǐhuan chī chòu dòufu.

我喜欢吃臭豆腐。

I like to eat stinky toufu.

22 初级/chūjí

Primary/Junior

Tā cóng chūjí zhíyuán zuòqǐ, zuìzhōng chéng le zhè jiā gōngsī de dǒngshì.

他从初级职员做起,最终成了这家公司的董事。

He joined the firm as a junior clerk, and finished up as a director.

23 出色/chūsè

Outstanding

Yīnwèi tā de chūsè biǎoxiàn, gōngsī jiǎnglì le tā yī liàng chē.

因为他的出色表现,公司奖励了他一辆车。

Because of his outstanding performance, the company awarded him a car.

24 次要/cìyào

Secondary

Zhè shì shŏuyào mùbiāo, qítā de dōu shì cìyào de.

这是首要目标,其他的都是次要的。

This is the primary goal, and all else is secondary.

25 大方/dàfang

Generous

Tā rén bù fù, dàoshi tĭng dàfang de.

他人不富,倒是挺大方的。

He’s not rich, but he is very generous.

26 大型/dàxíng

Large-scale

Zài cāntīng jǔxíng dàxíng jùhuì xūyào tíqián yùdìng.

在餐厅举行大型聚会需要提前预订。

Meals for large parties should be booked in advance.

27 呆/dāi

Stupid/To Stay

Nĭ yuànyì dāi duōjiŭ jiù dāi duōjiŭ.

你愿意呆多久就呆多久。

You can stay as long as you please.

28 单纯/dānchún

Pure/Naive

Tā kànsì dānchún, qíshí hěn chéngshú.

她看似单纯,其实很成熟。

She appears to be naive, but actually she’s very mature.

29 单调/dāndiào

Monotonous

Wǒ yànjuàn le xiànzài dāndiào de shēnghuó.

我厌倦了现在单调的生活。

I am tired of my monotonous life.

30 单独/dāndú

Alone

Nǐ jiù bùnéng ràng wǒ dāndú dāi yīhuìr ma?

你就不能让我单独呆一会儿吗?

Can’t you just leave me alone?
